Update on Surgery on Right Hand

Just had surgery on right hand on 5th November at QEQM, was anxious of the procedure as had Local Aesthetic, but all was good did not hurt at all was like having Carpal injections, I removed the outer heavy bandage yesterday as they advised and am left with softer under bandage which advised to keep on until I have stitches out of which there is only three on 20th November at GP's Surgery. I can feel that I am getting a little feeling back in my index, middle and ring fingers as they were completely numb and could not feel anything, It is early days but I have a good feeling that all is going to plan and so glad I opted for surgery, Thank you Dr Bland.

I'm glad to hear that wasn't too traumatic an experience. I see the referral for surgery was made on 24th September so it looks as though it took about 7 weeks on that waiting list which is not too bad - we can't always predict how long its going to take at QEQM as we don't directly control the list. Do we know which surgeon eventually carried out the operation? JB

I thought it was very quick, and the Surgeon was Mr Stanton, I have a follow up appointment on 16th December at his clinic in QEQM Hospital, do I still keep intouch with you for my Left Hand and further updates on my Right.

Certainly keep in touch. I like to know how all my patients get on with their operations. I'm hoping to reach 10,000 operation outcomes recorded before I retire :-) I can also help arrange treatment for the other hand anytime but sometimes the hand surgeons do just offer to go straight on and do the other side. I hope you do not retire before I get my other hand sorted as you have done so much for me getting my right hand sorted, which I really appreciate, I usually keep intouch with Emma when the injections start wearing off, shall keep doing that or speak to you on this forum. by the way had stitches out on my right hand, wasn't quite healed in a small part so nurse put strip stiches on and covered go back to nurse in GPs on 26-11-19, still have slight numbness and tingling at the top part of middle and ring finger on right hand, but its amazing how quick the feeling has come back.

Good to hear it's doing well. I wonder if it would be useful to have a library of photographs of post-operative wound appearances to give people an idea what to expect? JB

That would be a good idea.

Just to let you know my right hand has completely healed and back to full working order with no pain or numbness in fingers thank you so much.

You said to keep intouch for my other hand, so over the past couple of weeks the pain and numbness in my left hand has come back with a vengeance especially at night which wakes me up and is excruciating much worse than it has ever been and has come back so quick, I have e-mailed Emma Kaile to see if it would be ok to get an appointment to get another injection, hope you can help me with this one Dr Bland, look forward to hearing from you .

Should be no problem as lonsg as we don't all get locked down by COVID-19. Emma is in the office tomorrow and should be able to look for a space - I'm doing an outlying clinic near Maidstone. JB

Have had a letter with an appointment for 16th April to be re assessed for my left hand. Have taken a retest on here for left hand and came out at 3.82. Will keep you informed of outcome.

I should heear a bit more today about plans for COVID-19 but I rather expect that a lot of routine surgery will be postponed shortly. JB

Should I still attend my appointment on the 16th of April even for injections if that is all that can be done for the time being.

16th April is still quite a way ahead - we're thinking what to do with next week yet (30th March to 3rd April) so keep an eye on here and I will let you know. JB
