hi Dr Bland, ive recieved an appointment to come and see you in november, my Dr has referefed me, i was diagnosed with RSI 15 years ago and over the years my right arm has deteriated slowly, my dr did my pressure points and said he thinks its carpel tunnel and also i have repeated tennis elbow, i also went to hospital a few wks ago and was told i have torn a muscle in my neck, but since then my neck and my arm have got rapidly worse! i only work 16 hours a week but im struggling and frightened i may have to give up work, as im a chef i really need my hands to work as best they can, i wear a night splint and it doesnt seem to make much difference, i now cant move my right arm behind my body getting dressed has now become quiet awkward, and im alergic to anti inflammitries, and desperately dont want to loose my job, i had my finger in the oil the other day and couldnt feel it, my boss was none to impressed! is there anything i can do or take to help me get through this?
thanx for your time

Sounds like a rather complex mix of different diagnoses from different people. Hard to say much more until I get a chance to see you and some test results. I'm no miracle worker but at least I would hope to be able to work out roughly how much of your problem, if any, is due to carpal tunnel syndrome. I hope the November date is not too far away - we are trying very hard to get rid of our waiting list at present and it has been coming down slowly but it's still longer than I would like. As far as CTS is concerned splinting is the only really recommendable first aid measure which you can apply yourself and it sounds as though that is not really working for you. One thing I think one could say is that being unable to get your right arm behind you is not a symptom which I have ever seen associated with carpal tunnel syndrome so we can pretty much guarantee that you do have something else wrong, whether or not you have CTS. Sorry I can't suggest anything more practical before seeing you but this is about as far as medicine by internet can go. JB

thank you for your fast response, i am very happy with the appointment timing, i thought i would have to wait longer, so im very happy its just 4 weeks wait..
i didnt know whether the arm was to do with cts, so i think another appointment to the drs is in order there, i do believe i have a few problems with my arm from the neck to the fingers, so i think its going to be a process of elimination.
I keep wearing my splint and can only take co codamals at night as they knock me out.
thank you very much for you time it has been helpful and look forward to seeing you in the clinic
