Hi, ive just been diagnosed with cts. I broke my wrist in 2000. I picked up a box at work around Christmas times and thought my wrist had gone again. After a week or so it was ok again.but since then I have had numbness tingling and pain in my left hand, waking me up at night.I went to my doctor early April who arranged for me to see a doctor at my local hospital, who arranged for me to go for for a C N S. He gave me a score of 4plus. All this has been done within a month, brilliant service. Im now waiting to see what happens next.my symptoms have got worse day by day. It's almost all the time now. Also I have a lump over my left wrist which has developed and got bigger over the last month, when I had the CNS test the person doing the test said the lump would probably have to be investigated, and might alter how they do the operation. She also said no to the injection! Any idea's as to what this might be? Hopfully I will hear soon as I only had the test last Thursday.

The commonest lump at the wrist is a ganglion cyst, which may or may not be involved in causing the CTS. There are however lots of other things it might be. An ultrasound scan would probably sort out what it is and help to decide whether it is contributing to the CTS. I'm happy to hear the system is working well somewhere and that things are happening reasonably quickly. Have you tried splinting it at night as a first aid measure? JB

As im left handed, and work in a shop I am using it all day so I wear a wrist band all day. In fact it's on from first thing until I go to bed. It is getting worse by the day. I get a lot of sharp pains in the palm of my hand sort of from my thumb to my wrist. But so far my GP who is brilliant ,and Fleetwood Hospital along with the tests done at The Victoria have all been done quite quickly. I just hope they follow up as fast. As for wearing the splint at night, will it be okay to more or less wear it all the time? And thanks for your reply.

Yes it's fine to wear a splint all the time but it is important to be sure it is the right design for CTS and that it is adjusted correctly. There are illustrations and instructions on the splints page. JB
