Hello dr Bland. I visited the reculver clinic on Saturday for a pre op assessment with dr Rhine. Dr Rhine said that I. Have arthritis in my wrists and felt relluctant to operate on the CTS problem as it may make my wrist pain symptoms worse. He suggested that I visit my G.P. To sort out the arthritis before any thing else is done. I saw Dr Pau today and he said we should try pain killers as a first step, and has prescribed cocodamile. He also said the that steroid injections may be a further option. Have you any suggestions please.

John emailed me about that. He thought you might have a form of arthritis that may require a bit more than painkillers. I'm not a rheumatologist so not really qualified to comment one way or the other. Investigation of a possible inflammatory arhtiritis usually requires a few blood tests and sometimes plain x-rays and/or ultrasound imaging so far as I can remember at least from distant memories of rheumatology. We can try injecting the carpal tunnel again in any case as that is unlikely to do any harm and might even benefit local arthritic inflammation too. I'll have a discussion with John too. JB

Thank you for the prompt reply Dr Bland. I am willing to try further injections, as the pain is really bad at present. Meanwhile I have started taking the pain killers prescribed by Dr Pau.
Regards.

If you can come in for injection on Tuesday next week we'll also try to get one or two basic blood tests done for arthritis I think. JB

Hello again Dr Bland. I would just like to let you know that since receiving the injections last week both wrists are much better. The pain has largely gone and the swelling has receded. Many thanks.
Anita Kelly.

Thanks for the update. We'll check up on the outcome formally at 6 weeks but in the meantime we should try to chase up your blood results. I'm not sure whether they are accessible on the hospital system now when arranged form primary care. I'll try to find out. JB
