8 months after surgery and in pain

Greeting,

I had been diagnosed with sever carpal tunnel and in need of surgery on my right wrist.. I had surgery over 8 months ago. Great surgery; no problems. Saturday I woke up with a dull pain that ran from my shoulder to my wrist. It was such a dull pain I could not get comfortable no matter what I did. I did not do much because the dull ache was too much. I am still have this dull ache down my arm. My arm is swollen just as it was prior to surgery. I have taken Alieve daily as much as I can.

I have done nothing different. Was out in the weather Friday night helping for several hours and it was cold. I did not know if that caused the problem. But I would like some advise as to what could have made this happen and how to help the pain go away.

Thank you so much for your help!

I take it that the surgery improved the original CTS symptoms and that you have been OK for the last 8 months? If that is the case then this sounds like a new problem rather than anything to do with the CTS. How severe was the pain? (on a scale from 1-10) Is there any weakness of the arm? Possibilities (not a comprehensive list) would include a problem with the shoulder itself, irritation of a nerve root in the neck, or perhaps even a problem like brachial neuritis which often develops suddenly one morning. If these symptoms persist for more than a day or so you should see a doctor. JB

Thank you for the quick reply.

Yes the surgery was a major improvement. I hyper extended the wrist over 6 years ago and lived in a brace that went to my elbow and on Advil or alieve. When I did the nerve test it was sever so it was decided to get it done as soon as possible. I will say the only thing I changed was limiting the amount of Advil pm at night. I had been taking two at night for years to help with pain and sleep. Starting Friday I started taking only one at night.

My pain level is around 5 solid dull pain. It was consuming. Yes on weakness in the arm not as bad as before. It just felt like it was tired if that makes sense. It was better after we did the ice bath and hot bath with the arm. The fore arm was not as swollen and the pain did go down a little.

I will contact the doctor tomorrow if still have problems. Most likely it will be at least a month before I can get in because he only come to town once a week.

Thank you again for your advice!

Excuse me asking but...a visiting doctor only once a week? Where is this? JB
