Dear Dr Bland
I would like to report what I believe is a significant improvement in both my wrists since seeing you on 22/12/17.
My new larger splint has been much more comfortable to wear at night and I have been woken much less by numbness and tingling in my right hand. I have left off the splint on my left wrist as suggested by you and I believe the symptoms at night have been similar to what they were previously. At night time now I would not say my right hand was worse than my left.
Over the Christmas holidays with a rest from work and also being reassured that my condition could be treated after seeing you I believe things have improved.
I have completed another symptom assessment on line with significant reductions in scores. The numbness and tingling still affects my little finger on my right hand but on my left hand my little finger feels much more normal these days.
I thought you may be interested in my Dentist’s comments when I had root canal treatment to a large tooth. Apparently I had unusually nerve supply to the tooth in that I had 4 branches of nerves instead of the normal three! Wether that would indicate peculiar nerve growth in my hands I don’t know.
I am still interested in the steroid injection that you suggested to rectify the problems if you still feel that would be a successful treatment.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes

it would certainly be an interesting experiment to try a steroid injection. As you know the distribution of your symptoms is odd for CTS. I don't think I would make anything too much of the dental observation - I quite often see minor variations of nerve growth on ultrasound imaging and I don't think it means very much. If you want to try injection we can do that this week. JB

Dear Dr Bland
If I were to have the steroid injection in my right wrist as this is worst affected, would I be able to continue working or would I require rest and time off work?
I would very much like to have the injection as you have said they can be extremely successful.
Thank you for your speedy response and I look forward to hearing from you again soon.
Best wishes

Most people do not require any time off after injection. A few get wrist and forearm pain for several days afterwards which can require a bit of rest but this is not common. JB
