Good Afternoon, I have completed the questionnaire and sent an email but not had a response, Both hands are constantly numb, I get woken up every night in pain and trying to look after a newborn baby... starting to really struggle.

I haven't received an email from your address. Looking at the questionnaire answers it's not very likely to be CTS, though it's not completely impossible. You could help me with a couple more items. First of all I see there is a family history of CTS - which relatives have been affected and at what age were they diagnosed/treated? Secondly did your current episode of symptoms begin during a pregnancy and then just continue after it? Thirdly it doesn't look as though you have tried a splint at night - it would be useful to know whether that has any effect on the night time symptoms you report. You can see what kind of splint is needed HERE and once you know what you are looking for they are easy enough to find online. Trying one of those for 2-4 weeks would be a useful diagnostic tactic as well as possibly providing some relief. JB

Many Thanks for getting back to me.
My mum has recently been to the doctors regarding numbness in her hands at the age of 54, she has been referred but unsure where too and if it’s been confirmed.
I have had symptoms for the past 5 years or so but before pregnancy this was mostly during the night. Now I have had my baby 3 months ago things have got a lot worse. I constantly have numb fingers/hands, I can normally feel my little finger. This has recently been waking me up during the night which is very painful and I can’t remember the last time I could actually feel my hands.
I will look into getting the splint for the nights to see if this helps.
Thank you.

So the relationship to pregnancy will push up the probability of CTS. Try them with a splint for 4 weeks and if that doesn't actually solve the problem we'll get you tested. JB

Good Evening,

I have used the splints for 4 weeks now and although the pain during the night has been better, I still have pins and needles plus numbness. I would really appreciated being tested now as it’s not solved the problem and it’s really starting to get me down.

Many Thanks in advance for your help,

KR

I should be able to fit you in next week or the week after. If you email me your full contact details (see the patient information page for what I need) I'll get it set up. JB

Good Afternoon,

Just wanted to let you know so far the steroid injections have been a massive relief. The tips of my fingers are still quite numb but apart from that it’s been a lot better. I have my fingers crossed it will last for some time.

Thank you so much for the test and injections.

Kind regards
Zoe

That's pretty good for such a severe CTS. Are you able to add a new severity score to the website - click "My CTS: then "My CTS record" then "Take a new severity score test" JB

All done. ZT

Thanks. I've imported this into your hospital records. That is indeed an unusually good response to injection for a grade 5 CTS. We don't need to do anything else immediately but let me know as soon as it seems to be getting worse again. JB

Good Evening,

My left hand is giving me the same symptoms of carpal tunnel I had before the steroid injections. Would it be possible to have another injection please? I have been holding off for a couple of weeks when it returned but its getting worse especially in the mornings.

My right hands seems to be ok at the moment.

Many Thanks
Zoe

I've booked you in with us on Monday 14th June at 15:30 - hope that's OK. Could you add a new severity score to the website please. JB

That’s great thank you. I keep having twinges in my other hand now but I will let you know how I go.

Thanks

Just add a new severity score whenever you think the symptoms have changed significantly - and definitely once between now and when we next see you please. JB

Good Evening,

My right hand is giving me the same symptoms of carpal tunnel I had before the steroid injection last January. Would it be possible to have another injection please? I have done another severity score.

Many Thanks

Good Afternoon Dr Bland,

I have been successful in applying to be a Police Officer and the nurse has asked if there is any sort of paperwork that I could give them regarding my Carpal tunnel. It’s of course improved since I was diagnosed after having my baby but I just want to prove it’s not going to effect my new role.

Many Thanks in advance.

Kind regards
Zoe

It shouldn't have much impact on a career in the police but you can tell them that yours was grade 3 and refer them to this site for further general information about CTS. You can have a copy of your report if necessary. JB

Thank you. How do I get a copy of my report? I think they want me to send them something. Zoe

Good Morning,
I am getting strange messages. Has this been hacked.

Not exactly hacked but some bots are bombarding the site with spam which I delete periodically. I'll lock this topic so that it won't get any more but if you want to contact me through the forum you will need to start a new one. JB
