Recurrence of symptoms after injection

Mr Bland, sorry I may have posted this in the wrong place last time (see carpal tunnel topics) basicly, I have previously been diagnosed as having carpal tunnel and have had the injection treatment, the symptoms have returned and i have been refered back to Canterbury to begin the whole process again. is this necessary or can I just arrange further treatment with you via this website?

As it's fairly recently that we treated you it should be possible to just contact me directly via the site but that situation is vulnerable to change as the government changes the way in which the NHS is organised and may become subject to approval by your GP or the commissioning group to which they belong. For the moment you have a new referral to me pending in any case so we just need to decide how best to arrange things. Back in December you had a grade 2 right and grade 3 left CTS so they were not too bad and it appears that they responded very well to injection for a while. Faced with a recurrence after 8 months I would generally prefer to re-test them to make sure they have not deteriorated so if you don't mind coming to see me too much I would keep the pending appointment which is only a week or two away and we can then decide what to do next armed with some concrete information. it would be a good idea to repeat the symptom severity questionnaire on here (from the MyCTS pages). JB

Thankyou for your reply i look forward to seeing you on the 3rd the injections only lasted 6 weeks and have progressively got worse especially in my left hand and the pain now goes up into my elbow and the numbness is lasting so much longer than it was previously and has become very worrying. The pain, strangely is worse when i sit or lay down, I now have trouble sleeping as the pain and numbness at night is becoming unbearable.
Also, when I am driving, I am obvioulsy aware that I am holding the streering wheel, although on occasions my hands are so numb I can not feel the wheel at all, is this normal?
I have in the last few weeks repeated the questionnaire and thought i had updated the results!!!!

thanks again, I will lookforward to seeing you soon, hopefully to arrange further treatment, in what ever form you consider this should take. SB

I have just had a look and there is just one questionnaire stored under the id shirbarrett on the website, dated 6th August so that appears to be the recent one. I think your earlier answers are on here under a different username 'shirley'. It looks as though it does feel worse to you now from the symptom scores and certainly your description above sounds as though it is worse so we should indeed measure it and see if there has been a deterioration. You certainly should not have wholly numb hands when driving.

I will have to do something about the dual registration on this site as we should be trying to keep the whole history under one login id. We may have to delete your old record but we can sort it out when I see you sorry it's not sooner but we are rather overloaded at present. JB
