Help with symptoms, please

I am waiting for an op on my right hand, having had the left one done 6 years ago, but my symptoms are worse and I could have 3 months to wait. I had a steroid injection 15 months ago, which worked for while. I wear a splint and hang my arm down out of the bed at night, but the pain still wakes me up. What else can I do? Any ideas?

Your best bet is to get it injected again while waiting for surgery. There is no reason not to do this and it will probably respond just as well a second time. JB

I was told this was not an option, but thanks anyway.

I can think of very few circumstances in which injection to alleviate symptoms while waiting for surgery is not an option - about the only real reason not to do this is a history of severe hypersensitivity reaction to a previous injection. Second injections in the same hand are sometimes more successful, and sometimes less succesful, than the first one. Ask them why it is not an option - if they can come up with an evidence based answer I will be impressed! JB
