Report on splint use

I have been wearing the splints nearly every night since I saw you at the start of December.
The right hand seems a lot better, only occasional very slight tingling.
But the left hand is still tingling quite a lot, and still occasional numbness and shooting pains.

surgery today

Hi I had surgery a few hours ago but my index finger is now very numb and tingly - worse than before surgery. Is this normal and will it improve?

Cause of CTS -like symptons

Dr Bland;
During mid-2011, I was successfully prescribed 2 weeks anti-inflam treatment for severe pain in my right shoulder by my GP; and I also had a MRI scan at QEQM Margate that showed evidence of 'wear and tear' and thickening of the tendons in my shoulder, but nothing that was deemed operable.
Just prior to that treatment, my CTS-like 'symptons' were quite severe, and I became personally convinced that they were and still are being caused by my shoulder problem.

Repeat tests

Hello Dr Bland

I had electro-physiology tests done some 18 months ago which indicated I had CTS in both hands the right being more severe than the left. I was given cortisone injections that worked for a limited period of a few months. I'm a bit puzzled by the need for the questionnair and further electro-physiology tests given that the diagnosis was confirmed just 18 months ago.
Regards
Peter Giles

What next?

I've had CTS for approximately 3 months now which started whilst I was pregnant. I have noticed the pain has lessoned in the last 3 weeks however the numbness is worse. I had a consultation on Tuesday 3rd Jan and the outcome was I would have steroid injections to see if that helped (CTS grade 4 in left hand, 5 in right). Its been a week since my injections and there has been no change. I'm just wondering what to do next? As stated the pain is manageable now and isn't waking me up however the major of my fingers are constantly numb which makes everyday task difficult.

Postpone operation date?

Hello Dr Bland. I'm in a quandary: my carpal tunnel pain has all but disappeared! This is almost certainly due to the fact that because of my current sciatic pain I have not been able to play the cello for over three months! I am likely to need surgery for my back, so in the meantime it might be an idea to indefinitely postpone the CTS operation - what do you think? I realise that coming off the list will mean that I have to go through the electrode tests again at some point in the future, but I can't go on postponing and postponing dates - or can I?

post op

I have had my left hand operated on 6 Dec 2011 which was a level 5+ and has been a great success as the numbness and pins and needles has now stopped completely. Now waiting for right hand to be done a level 4 and hoped that this can be operated on asap as it is noticably worse than before. Increase in numbness during the night causing me to wake. I am anxious to ge the right hand operated on, please can you let me know when this may be possible.

Injection

Waiting to here about Injection date

Update : Post injection

It has been nearly four weeks since the injection, so far it has made no difference to the right hand, with constant pins and needles. I will be a patient, patient and wait another two weeks. The right hand at times to be getting weaker, I am tired of dropping things! The left hand may have very slightly improved. Any advice?

Steroid injection

I have called to try and make an appointment for an injection via the GP route but all appointments are not local or a long wait (28th Feb for Canterbury).

Is it possible to have the injection at K&C like you mentioned please?
