Worsening CTS following decompression

Hi there,

I am a 37M MSK Physio (no PMHx) and had a right sided endoscopic decompression surgery on the 28/9/24 to my right hand. Symptoms prior to surgery were numbness and tingling in the median nerve distribution in the hand and progressive weakness. Prior to surgery, NCS showed mild compression and neck MRI ruled out nerve root Involvement. I also had a CSI around 18 months prior which failed to settle symptoms.

SEVERE CTS - RECOVERY TIME

I had severe CTS diagnosed in December and underwent surgery in January.

My consultant wrote to me pre-op:

CTR performed 4wks ago numbness is worse along with hand function post op

Hi! I had endoscopic CTR completed on both hands. My RH was completed on 3/5/25 and my LH on 3/18/25. I am concerned that now I have constant numbness in my ring finger, half of my middle finger and into the palm as well in the RH. I also am not able to close my fingers when my hand is extended on the RH I did not have any of these issues prior to endoscopic release. My LH was done after my RH and I have had no issues with numbness or operating my fingers.

is the numbness dangerous?

I am almost certain to be diagnosted CTS (I did the EMG-test). But as I take letrozole because of breast cancer my oncologist wants me to not do anything for the moment. I do not mind to wait even though it is very unpleasant especially at night (even with braces) but I do worry that the damage might become permanent and that one day my hands will not wake up any more .... Is this possible? In the month of May I will have a breast operation under full narcose and I am so very afraid to wake up with numb hands/arms that will never again recover .....

Zingers after steroid injection

Hello, I had bilateral steroid injections 3 days ago. Right wrist went smoothly but my median nerve in my left wrist was poked, felt pain and a zap through my middle finger. My right wrist is mostly fine but my left wrist is still getting zinging pain mostly through my middle finger, but occasionally in my index and palm with certain movements. Is this common? And will it get better? It has me worried and I haven’t been able to do anything with my hand these past few days.

CTS Steroid Injection

Hi, I had a steroid injection to relieve my CTS 4 weeks ago - is it normal to still be getting 'electric shock' feelings in my thumb when reaching for something? It leaves my thumb feeling numb for a while and then creates a pain in my wrist that could last a couple of hours

CTS Pathway

This has been a very streamlined and efficient pathway. Congratulations to Professor Bland and all the team yesterday who did my surgery. I had my tests on the 1st of July and surgery on the 17th of August at FMP. The information given is excellent, well done team.

Carpel tunnel returned

Hi there I last had steroid injection in both hands in 2023 which work well for me but the ct has now returned and I require steroid injections again please

Natural numbness remedies?

My friend has recently developed numbness and tingling in his first two fingers after his thumb, and was diagnosed with carpal tunnel. Does anyone have any natural remedies for relieving the numbness without surgery? He really does not want surgery, and we're exploring less invasive ways to get relief. Acupuncture? Massage? Any thoughts appreciated.

Post bilateral CTS release

Hello to everybody, I wanted to hear an opinion from my esteemed colleague regarding my situtation So Im on my final year of neurosurgery, and i did myself couple of dozen of carpal tunnel release surgeries. And to make story short, I became the patient 3 weeks ago when my Colleague orthopedic surgeon did carpal release on my Left hand (dominant), mini open, and I noticed that he didnt use bipolar to cauterize the edges of the ligament. From that day I had no symptoms even though i have to admit I did not keep My hand relaxed as mich as I should have.
