Help !

Hi.

Male 62, open heart surgery July 2011, replace bicupsid aortic valve.

Good recovery,, some problems with fluid on heart and an episode of emergency admission Hospital because of atrial fibrillation..

January 7th, feeling good, worked intensively in garden, woke up at night intense pain, numbness both hands.

Nerve conduction recorded 10. "Off the scale", said the person doing test.

At same time as carpal tunnel syndrome I had a flare up of psoriasis, swelling of feet.I have arthritis which can be troublesome, including in right thumb.

Is My World Over? :-/

Hi everyone I'm Luke,33 and from South Yorkshire.
So... I have heard of CTS in my career being a Tattoo Artists and it looks like its come and paid me a visit.
I will be honest with you, I'm scarred to death!
My art has been my world since day one and is the only thing I know. Basically its saved my life from the person I once was in my younger days.

During the time of being diagnosed I have received 3 different diagnosis's. 2 from A&E and 1 from my doctor.
The first was repetitive strain, the second was a trapped nerve in my neck and the final being carpal tunnel syndrome.

Day 2 post injection.

Im at work today. Its hurting a bit in the wrist and side of the hand and in the palm.
I had pain last night too, but a hot water bottle sorted that out.

I was hoping for immediate relief. or was that expecting too much?? I have lots of breaks in between my service users, I plan to have a kip this afternoon.
My next day off is friday.

Steroid Inj.

Having the injection on monday...have some local anaesthetic cream to put on beforehand but Im really dreading it.

I know its going to hurt, but please tell me, will it ease my symptoms immediately??

The pain I have in my hand and up my wrist is torture.

Return to work

I have bi-lateral carpal tunnel (underlying cause is inflammatory arthritis of some kind, no more specifc diagnosis) - grade 5 in my right hand and grade 3 in my left hand. I had carpal tunnel release surgery on my right hand earlier this week (Monday 14th). It seems to have been successful in that my symptoms have improved. I've taken the big bandage off and everything looks ok apart a bit of bruising.

Too soon for surgery?

I broke my right elbow six months ago and it's now full of screws and a metal brace. I can't get my wrist into a neutral position when my arm is by my side because I can't straighten my elbow (even when it hangs at my side, the elbow is bent and so flexes the wrist).

Stenar lesion then Carpal Tunnel

Following a fall, I ruptured my ulnar collateral ligament, right/dominant hand. Had a year of conservative treatment, physio, steroid injections, Consultant telling me I had sprained not ruptured ligament! Eventually asked for a second opinion from a hand surgeon. USound and MR (not done before, just an Xray) confirmed Stenar diagnosis. Open surgery end of Jan, went really well. Six weeks post op developed pain, tingling and numbness in same hand. Assumed post op complication but diagnosed as Carpal Tunnel.

Lack of information on recovery

I had surgery on my right hand last week (not as bad as I had thought!)

Have read previous posts on recovery times, and it seems I am not the only one who does not know what to expect. Since every case is different you would think that your surgeon would explain what you should be doing to help your hand to recover as soon as possible. How long should we be resting, and when and how should we be moving? I asked for information before leaving the hospital, but was not given anything satisfactory.

Can i get steroid injection while pregnant?

I am 36wks pregnant and have suffered for CTS for 4wks now. It appeared and went almost straight away to unbearable. I was given splints which helped at night time for a maximum of 3 nights before i was being woken up in pain again.
I can't even hold a knife and fork anymore without everything going numb.
My GP has offered me pain killers that i am not able to take due to pregnancy. I am after all information i can so i can go back to my GP armed with knowledge. I am going to be unable to look after my newborn if i dont get some kind of help.

Swelling and pain of both index fingers

Hi -As a newcomer to this site I would like to know if anyone else has the experience of "swelling and pain of both index fingers"and also at the base of these fingers, also the inability to straighten fully or indeed close fully!!-I am waiting to see a Neurologist re Carpal Tunnel and although a lot of my symptoms are very similar to CT I have not seen MY symptoms mentioned anywhere! Thankyou
