Post surgery numbness and pain

It has been two weeks since my carpel tunnel release and having had my other hand done over 2 years ago I am extremely worried about the progress.

My thumb, index finger, half of my middle finger and a third of my palm are numb and I am experiencing electrifying pain in those fingers. I asked my surgeon if my median nerve could of been damaged during surgery and was advised that no it wasn't and these symptoms are quite normal and yet I had full sensation back in my other hand within 2 days and my other hand pre op was worse.

Help with symptoms, please

I am waiting for an op on my right hand, having had the left one done 6 years ago, but my symptoms are worse and I could have 3 months to wait. I had a steroid injection 15 months ago, which worked for while. I wear a splint and hang my arm down out of the bed at night, but the pain still wakes me up. What else can I do? Any ideas?

Progress after two ops.

My left hand op was June 23rd. Scar healing nicely although my grip is a little weak perhaps I have not exercised it enough being right handed,no numbness at all in this hand now.My right hand op was September 12th it is really amazing how this hand seems so much stronger already. The incision is still tender and I had a little puss production because the stitches had not dissolved completely. This has cleared up since the nurse removed them. I struggle with opening bottles and tins but I feel things are improving daily.

Just been recommended for surgery

After 7.5 years of battling through with what I now know to be cts and a steroid injection in March this year I have now been recommended for surgery. Am looking forward to the possiblility of being able to sleep for an entire night one day (night) soon - small children permitting!! However I am wondering how surgery will impact on my life. I am right handed and of course this is the hand that needs treatment. I have two children (8 & 3) and work 4 days a week in an office with my work being 90% computer based.

should i go ahead with surgery

I am due to have surgery in my right hand on friday, and now feel a little reluctant to go ahead with it. After finding I was regularly waking up in discomfort and occasionally pain, and thinking that surgery would be my best option, since starting to wear a splint at night this has all reduced significantly. My movement in my hand has never really been affected, and again since wearing the splint, the tingling I feel when driving, typing, reading, cycling etc has almost stopped.

Newly diagnosed, injection yesterday

Hello, I have found this website and forum via information given to me by my GP. Thankfully. I had a steroid injection yesterday am and was feeling the benefit last night and earlier today. I was starting to worry that the injection was not going to work as a few hours ago I started feeling tingling again. I can see from the forum and site that it is quite common for the effect of the injection not to be immediate. I was beginning to think it was not going to work! I am hopeful that a good nights sleep with a splint will help the injection to do it's magic, as I'm working tomorrow.

Right hand

Well I had my right hand operated on Wednesday 12th Sept. It was different in that I paid for this one to make sure I had the op when I wanted it with it being out of season for my vets tennis commitments and also giving me time to recover for my Xmas holiday. I felt more during this op. no pain but like short pin like feelings which the consultant said was him moving a nerve. The hand feels a lot stronger than my left was after the op and I am very hopeful that it will recover quicker.

carpal tunnel syndrome and hormones

Hi, great information on this site, glad to have found it.

I am booked in for release surgery in my right hand in about 1 month, in a private hospital, courtesy of the NHS. I had almost exactly a year free of discomfort following a hydrocortisone jab, but it has come back with a vengeance!

Update

Just an update my left hand is improving daily since my op on 23rd June. It is a lot stronger although the scar is still a bit tender. I am having the right hand done on the 12th Sept. I played tennis last night and was wincing on most forehand shots. It is now the close season and all being well it will recover in time for my holiday in December in the sun. The weakness in my right hand is much worse than my left was pre- op . I just hope all goes well as tennis is a big part of my life.
