Aching Wrist

I am now 2 weeks and 4 days post op, the stitches are out and I am regularly massaging the scar with emollient to soften the skin. The scar site still feels hard and heavy with reduced sensation in it although it is difficult to hold anything that needs to rest against the area, such as an iron or knitting needles.

I have also noticed that my wrist and arm are aching from time to time with the ache coming from the scar site and there is a hard raised lump under the skin at one point along the scar.

Is this a common experience post op?

Many thanks

Claire

Pain in wrist

I had an injection in my right wrist last November which improved my symptoms.
My right wrist has suddenly become extremely painful at night with pins and needles in my fingers also during the day especially when gripping items.
Could I possibly try another injection to see if it eases the symptoms and perhaps book an appointment for the operation.
Many thanks

Post Operative Issues

Hello Dr Bland

I am now 4 days post op, have removed the main bandage as instructed and left the dressing in place. I have a large bruise covering the palm of my hand, and I have noticed a smaller one travelling down my wrist very slowly, is this normal? Also my fingers feel very weak and I am struggling to hold even very light things (I have not attempted to lift anything with any real weight in it with my right hand) Will this weakness go as the hand heals?

Progress since last treatment

Hello Dr Bland. Just to let you know that the injection that I had on 21/7 provided relief for a few weeks, but the tingling and numbness in my right hand has returned. My left hand seems ok apart from the symptons of Ostio arthritis. Would it be possible to come and see you and discuss further action. Regards Anita Kelly.

CTS or trigger finger

Hello, I hope I have found the right place to communicate with you! I wrote to you yesterday on another CTS forum and you asked me to move over to your clinic website forum, I hope this is the correct place to be.

Hi Dr Bland,
Been a while now....but symptoms are returning with a vengeance in my right hand...usual stuff...pins and needles and numbness with pain during night and now starting whilst driving. Guessing it's time to re-test and look at steroid injection again? Thought last one had cured it.......

FAO Dr Bland

Dr Bland,
Since my consultation with you on 22nd July I have noticed increased numbness in both hands. I would like, if possible, to have a retest and discuss the possibility of steroid injection mentioned.
Many thanks,
Christine Cook.

Injection update

Hello Dr Bland!

I had my injection in my right hand, 23 May.... It took the discomfort and numbness away, however this has started to return over the last week. This coincided with me doing DIY. I have started to sleep in my splint again, however I is not getting rid of the pain in my fingers or numbness during the night. Is there anything else I can do?

Thanks
Amy

Possible post op complications

I had surgery on my right hand end of last July so about a year ago. It has been brilliant. No numbness ir problems so completely successful.
However in about the last 6 weeks I have noticed that my right thumb is sore and keeps getting stuck or refuses to bend. It is very painful to bend it and ditto back straight again and clicks. This seems to have got worse in the last couple of weeks. I am
Having trouble using it and gripping so becoming s real problem.
Is this a possible connection to the surgery and should I contact the clinic for an appointment it see my own go?

Referral question

Dear Dr Bland I was advised to contact you via this forum by my rheumatology nurse specialist - Jackie Smith. I am suffering severly from carpal tunnel bilaterally. I have nerve conduction tests with the results registering 5 in the left 3/4 in the right. My GP has referred me to the Carpal Tunnel service but I have not yet heard anything. I work in the hospital trust in the Vascular Dept as as Nurse Specialist. I am struggling to maintain full clinical activity due to the pain in my hands....at times my fingers are numb so finding and palpating distal pulses is proving a little tricky!
