Ethical safe diagnosis and time wasted

I recently consulted with my GP regarding strange tingling in my fingers and a definite numbness in 6 fingers and both thumbs.
I thought it was CPS (never want to make useless appointments with doctor) My doctor said she thought I was wrong and suggested it could be circulation problems. (family history) She said she would refer me to a specialist.

I received a telephone call from the GP surgery to tell me that I could not have an appointment but had to ware splints for 8 weeks before anybody would see me.

hello a newbie here so don't know hoe this really works!

hi,i have had this for a few years but only just went to docs after a push from my daughter. Got referred had the tests and carpal tunnel was found in right not left (the one i have most problems with!) had steroid injection in october in the left wrist and over the last few weeks my hand has been going numb and today while driving my fingers went numb and tingly so done the usual shake the hand and hold it down so blood runs back in,didn't work, what to do? follow up appointment next month at docs who done the steroid injection.

Its back....

Hi Jeremy....well the pins and needles are back, worse on the right. I have been having symptoms for about 5 or 6 weeks now and have also been getting elbow pains too. I don't know if it could make any difference but have been found to have 2 prolapsed discs and whilst they are affecting my legs could these be having an effect on the my wrists as well, I doubt it but thought I would mention it. I do feel the symptoms in my arms and hands are CT again.....over to you.

1 Year On & bad wrist pain

Hello Dr Bland.

Enter page title here Help!

Dear Dr Bland, you advised me to contact you should I have any further trouple with my carpel tunnel pain. I had a second injection exactly one year ago at the Wye surgery and a previous injection about 10 months befor that. Unfortunately I have had pain and numbness for about the last four weeks and this is now getting worse and keeping me awake with the pain. I would be very grateful if you were able to see me in the near future. Thanking you in anticipation, Roberta Cheeseman

Another steroid injection?

Hello Dr Bland!

The reason for getting in contact again after all this time (2 years!), during which the CTS had to take a back seat while I tried to sort out severe back problems, culminating last month in surgery for an L4-5 discectomy and compression at WHH, is that the CTS is still there and getting worse, particularly in the right hand, primarily the second and third fingers, which are constantly numb at the tip. There is also numbness in the left thumb, and moderate, intermittent pain in the left forearm, neither of which I have had before...

carpal left hand Susan Hougham

its a lot better, not so painful, but still getting pins and needles once a day.

return of symptoms

Hi
I had my second injection on my left hand back in June.
The symptoms have returned with a vengeance, the numbness is waking me up during the night, even when wearing a wrist splint. It appears to be worse when lying down and on occasions I have to sit up to relieve to numbness The ache seems to radiate up my arm as well as into my hand, is this usual?

Is it possible to have another injection?

Thanks for your time

surgery for older patients

I came with my father to your clinic yesterday at the K and C. He is 92, and wondering whether surgery is the right treatment for his CTS. A couple of queries..what is the success rate of the surgeon whose list he has gone on? Can we be confident that the surgeon will actually carry out the procedure? Is the success rate for older people lower? Is the recovery time likely to be longer for an older person with grade 5 CTS? If you were him, would you elect for surgery? I would appreciate any help you can give. Thank you.

Return of Symptoms

Following my visit to you in January this year, I had second injections in both wrists in March. These were largely successful but now the symptoms are steadily becoming more troublesome both at night and during the day. Would it be possible, please, to have them tested again?

Many thanks.

AH
