For Canterbury patients
Injection date
My Appointment has been made for steroid injection for carpal tunnel at Dover Health Centre on 1.7.13
After injection, pain and numbness has returned
Afternoon
I had my first cortisone injection on Friday 3rd May, at Charing Health Centre. The first two weeks following the injection were very uncomfortable, but the numbness eased considerably. The numbness is coming back now and I am starting to wake up at night again. Plus I am experiencing pain and numbness in the little finger area and the wrist area, too. The pain seems to travel up the arm. It is particulary uncomfortable when driving and at night.
What do you suggest we do now?

4 week update on splint use
Dear Mr Bland,
I have been using the splints every night as agreed when I saw you. For the first 2 weeks everything went fine, but although I rarely wake in pain during the night the numbness and pain is becoming more prevalent.
I now think that maybe I should have chosen a different treatment.
Trying to get appointmentn though the admin office.
Hello Dr Bland,
I've had an operation on my right hand just before Christmas and recently received a review letter/questionnaire from yourself for my GP to assess the outcome of the operation. Despite calling in and asking the admin office to send the letter to my new GP, he did not receive one. So when I attended the appointment he knew nothing about it but did the assessment anyway and I returned the letter/questionnaire via the NHS internal postal system.
Unable to complete questionnaire
Your receptionist suggested I send a message on here. I have an appointment on the 3rd June but am unable to complete the questionnaire as it tells me I already have done so ( previous appointment last year after steroid injection ). Obviously when I filled the form previously I had received the injection and had no symptoms but now I have real problems with both hands but can't fill in the form to explain this. I've tried using a different name and e-mail address but need a different patient number or it won't work. Help !

locking thumb and tiff forefinger
To Dr J Bland
Hi, I have had the steroid injection in both hands last november and have been very pleased with the results. However in my left hand which was the more severe I have a very stiff thumb that locks in two places and my forefinger hardly bends. I was hoping to arrange for surgery during the month of August as I am a teacher starting a new job in september. Could you let me know how next to proceed. regards R. Neal
return of symptoms in right hand
Hi Mr Bland I am wondering if I could have another steroid injection since the first one ( October 2012 ) my symptoms have returned I am now wearing splint at nights,it has been 8 months trouble free until I started some heavy lifting which might have set it off again.
pain in left hand returned
Had second injection in left hand on 1 Nov 12. Has been great up to last week when started getting tingling when waking up in morning. Has rapidly gone to severe pain and waking me up. Once the pain relents in the morning it seems fine 'til early hours of morning again. The pain has now become unbearable and is taking longer to clear as every day passes. The "severe" pain area is in my thumb and when it leaves the thumb it goes in to my ring finger. The pain is also in the rest of the fingers and the palm and wrist, but not as severe and is bearable.
operation update
Hi kelly here, i had my op on the 15.04.2013 and all seems to be going well with the right hand at the moment, however the left hand is still showing syptoms,
not sure how we left it before the surgury and what to do about the left hand once this was done!
Post Operation
Dear Dr Bland,
I duely had my operation on April 6th and all went well. However I am experiencing some numbness in the tips of all four fingers (not the thumb) still and my hand goes cold for no apparent reason. Might this be normal and am I expecting too much too soon.
