Sleeping on back

Dear Dr Bland I've got an appt with you next week as symptoms pretty bad - have done the questionnaire. Just wanted to ask - I made myself sleep on my back a few nights ago and I didn't experience the usual CTS symptoms that night or on waking. I've tried this again three times and found the symptoms much reduced. However, sleeping on my back is not easy and I keep waking and wanting to turn on my side. Is it the physical position that reduces the symptoms? Or is it that I'm not getting into a very deep sleep when on my back?

Splints

Hi Doctor Bland,

Following on from my appointment of two weeks ago, I am wearing the splints on a regular basis and have found that the symptoms have been reduced but not eradicated.

Update following injection on Nov 1

Hi Dr Bland, Thank you for seeing me on Thursday. Following the injection in my right wrist (thankfully painless!) I have been wearing the splint at night and the situation does seem to have improved a little. However, I am still getting tingling in the thumb and next three fingers on the right hand, less so when wearing the splint at night but still continuously during the day.

Update 48 hours following cortisone injection

Hi Dr B. As suggested am now using this as means of communication rather than email direct to you. Following injection that relieved the excrutiating pain in my left hand that I had for a week, this is 48hour update as you requested. Have no pain - thank goodness. Have a tingling sensation on top of index and ring finger, also in my palm and right hand side of index finger and left hand side of ring finger. Furthermore, it feels like a burning sensation when I touch these areas.

cts & polymyalgia rheumatica

I am taking prednisolone(reducing dose) as treatment for recently diagnosed PMR.I had an injection(wye surgery Dr Fox ?) for this wrist which didn,t last very long( previously had op on left wrist which had been much worse -was very pleased with result).I resolved to ask for op for r.h if things got worse having read somewhere "best not to ignore it"Almost immediately back to normal with steroids except for R.h.

first use of splints

Having received diagnosis for CTS and now using splints at night I have definately felt an improvement in the comfort they provide to help get a good nights sleep! However I still have all the same symptons as before when they are off in the day ie numbness in the left 3 fingers and tingling/numbness in both. Also pain down the inside of the thumbs. I intend to book up steroid injection this week.

Post-Injection Success

Hi Dr. Bland,

I had my injection in my left wrist 04/10/2012 with Mr Michael Nicholas at your Canterbury clinic.

Firstly may I get you to thank Mr Nicholas as I found him to be very reassuring, pleasant, informative and easy to talk to.

I scored the pain 1/10 at the time of the injection. A few minor "electric shocks" after the treatment for about a week.
Since then I have been comfortable and my symptoms have all but resolved.

Surgery date margate

Mum has received several phone calls from margate re surgery but the phone number is just a message service . She was given the name Adam but has subsequently been referred back to you. She has decided that she would like the surgery now. Can you please advise where that leaves us ?

thank you
Angela
