Not sure whether to keep appointment....

Firstly, what a great idea to have a forum for patients to communicate with consultants.

8 months post surgery

I had surgery for carpal tunnel 8 months ago and everything has been fine until just recently. I"m experiencing pain in the area of the surgery, more so when my hand is in a hanging down position. The pain is relieved when I lift my hand and hold it up. Initially, it was in my upper arm and spreading down but now seems to be concentrated in the wrist/base of the hand. Also when it is painful, the veins are hugely protuberant. I'd like to know if this is a condition others have experienced and if so, what have they been able to do to relieve it.

ouch!

Hi Dr Bland, I fear my last steroid injection has worn off and mentioned to GP today as was seeing him anyway. Due to the nature of my job I am desperate to have another assessment or steroid injection. I believe my GP said they would write but not sure if it's easier this way as am struggling with it at the moment. Any advise would be much appreciated. Thanks Lyn

Dear Dr Bland

I had a second injection in my right wrist back in Feb 2014, this has been very successful until last week where by my fingers an thumb and been tingling nearly all day on and off. my wrist has felt tight and swollen ( felt the need to massage it ) and my thumb has felt almost painful and numb ( strange sensation ). I wondered if possible could I have another injection in my right wrist? many thanks Sharon

bruising at the base of my index finger

Hi, I'm not sure if this is anything to do with the cps. But I noticed today a sharp pain at the base of the index finger on my left hand, there was what appeared to be a vein protruding and within moments it turned to a dark bruise across the base of my index finger. It is uncomfortable rather than painful. It's this normal following the injection, or nothing to do with it. Thanks.

My first injection

Hi,

Right hand problem returning

Hi Dr. Bland,

The right hand symptoms are returning unfortunately. I'll start to wear the hand support to delay the need for a visit for an injection as long as possible, but can you be prepared for a call for help before too long.
Also noticed your appeal for people, sorry hadnt seen it sooner. If you still need recruits pencil me in.

Time scale for injection relief?

I had steroid injections in both hands on Monday, it's only been 2 days but should I be feeling some relief even after such a short time? My right hand is no different, my left hand may be slightly better, say 10 percent but this could also be wishful thinking. I'm desperate for this to work in the hope of avoiding surgery as I have a 10 week old to care for.

Helen
