Going for surgery but I am not convinced it’s CTS
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to tell everyone my symptoms to see if others had the same and went for surgery...
In January 2019 I started getting pain in my wrist, on the underside. No pins and needles etc no nimbleness. It was worse when using it for typing etc. I put it down to Tendonitis and had it in a splint for 8 weeks. No improvement. I was given naproxen which again didn’t do anything.
Before i proceed with surgery
13 months ago i had to stop working after persistent numbness, pins and needs, pain on the top side of my hands (feels like when you push a bad bruise) sharp stabbing like pains, cramp like spasms from my fingers to my shoulders ( highly repetitive work in a fish market) initially i was told it was likely CTS by a GP and we proceeded to seek treatment from a Physio Therapist and resedt for 5-6 months until i was sent to seek advice from a surgeon who told me he greatly thinks i have CTS due to my describes symptoms ( he recommended i get CTS release surgery asap) Seeking a second opinion i we

Dear Dr Bland
The good news is that my left hand if now fine, but with my right had there has only been a small improvement in the lower part of my fingers. Is it possible to have another injection in my right hand
PT or surgery
I received my results from the neurologist about 8 weeks ago. The topline feedback is:Abnormal nerve conduction of the bilateral upper extremities with normal electromyography of the left upper extremity:
1) There is electrophysiologic evidence of a left median sensory mononeuropathy at the wrist that is suggestive of a mild left carpal tunnel syndrome.
What will likely happen this time?
Hello,
I had the steroid injections in both wrists back on 3rd Jan this year but the effects have worn off after around 4 months. I am due to come back on Thursday for another appointment. What is the likelyhood of having the injections again? Or will I just he recommended surgery?
Many Thanks
Self diagnosios questionaire
I found answering you questionaire difficult because for me there is a wide variation in my symptoms, depending on what I have been doing with my hands.
Normally, in an "office" environment, the symptoms are pretty mild to sometimes moderate, though the right hand is always worse than the left. But if occasionally (say once a fortnight) I have been gardening, or doing something requiring powerful squeezing - such as wringing out washing (my washing machine has just failed !) - the symptoms rise to severe in the day and very severe at night, and last about a couple of days.
Swelling
Morning all, I have been suffering well over a year in both hands with my dominant hand the worst. I have had three injections and am now awaiting the operation which is scheduled for the end of June. When I wake in the morning my hand is very swollen even when I wear the splint given by the hospital. Just wondering if anyone else has the same thing and if there is anything I can do in the way of painkillers because the pain is so bad and seems to be getting worse. My hand is twice the size, cannot wait for the operation to come around!
Any advice would be great thanks everyone
Being told its carpal Tunnel buti am unsure
Bit of history:
I screen print for a living, alot of pressure goes through my wrist and hands whilst doing this.
Approx 3 months ago I used a pressure washer for hours, after I had an ache in right hand, not so unusual. Normally this would go, its been pretty consistent since. Pain in wrist (ache) pain ontop my hand, swelling ontop my hand in little spot just down from my first and second knuckle (makes my hand feel very stiff like cramps, I find rubbing it makes it feel better).
Pain in forearm after Steroid injection
Diagnosed as having Carpel tunnel in right wrist. I had the steroid injection a month ago. At time of injection, forearm muscle went very hard and painful, on side of injection site. I thought this was part of injection, a month later, the muscle is now weaker, I can't lift things,or do things for long periods, as can feel the muscle 'pulling'. And becomes painful.. Is it still healing? Is this normal? Or has there been damage done? The symptoms of Carpal tunnel are better though!
Steroid injecton hit the nerves?
I'm thankful I stumbled upon your website. It has great information. Thank you!
I have suffered from CTS for over 10 years... longer if I can add in CTS due to pregnancy 25 years ago.
Up until 2 years ago, I was able to handle it with taking an ibuprofen on occasion and splinting both wrists at night. The last 2 years have been quite bad. I suspect this is due to my job working in a food bank, lifting/carrying heavy boxes and sorting through hundreds upon hundreds of cans and boxes of food.
