Thanks for the help / Splints

Just found this website and wanted to say thank you to Dr. Bland for the explanation in the Treatments section of what CPS is and how a splint should be adjusted. I will eventually get to see a specialist (I've had the nerve conduction studies which diagnose mild CPS in both wrists) but in the meantime a little self-help seems sensible. So I ordered the splints from Amazon where there are several types available but I found they weren't working very effectively at controlling extension in particular.

Grip and take of motion post op

I'm about a year post ctr on both hands. Immediately after surgery I noticed that I could no longer really touch my thumb to my little finger. It will barely reach but there's no pressure behind it. I did squeeze ball exercises for a year and told the doc on follow-up. His reply was he wanted to wait and see if the nerves grew back. There's been no real progress. It's not debilitating but annoying. My grip did lose some strength and I dropped items more frequently. The dexterity wasn't quite the same. Anyone able to offer insight?

Not strictly CTS but....

I had an accident in the sea in Thailand 2.5 years ago and smacked a black spiny sea urchin so hard (accidentally) the spines went very deep all over the palm of my hand and in my wrist (some spines went right through). After lots of pain, I had surgery 5 months later where bits of spine were removed (these did not show on scans/x ray). The muscles in the web of my thumb wasted a fair bit after surgery.

Nerve conduction study results interpretation

Hi, I was hoping that someone may be able to help me in the interpretation of my recent nerve conduction study results. I have been told that I have very mild carpal tunnel syndrome in my left hand, and none in my right hand. Strangely, my symptoms are worse in my left hand (sporadic tingling and weakness in all fingers, no pain). I had another NCS two years ago which revealed moderate CTS in both hands. Since the NCS results don't reflect my current symptoms, I have been referred for an MRI of my cervical spine to see if the problem might originate there.

Irritated heels of hands 7 wks post-op

I am 7-weeks post-op for CT release on both hands (as well as ulnar nerve release at right elbow). Most CT symptoms have gone away, but the heels of both hands are red and inflamed (right hand is more severe) – enough that I ice hands and frequently sleep with them elevated on a cold gel-pack, only to wake up to the same swollen hands. My surgeon said that the incision looks good and to come back in another 5 weeks. But having irritated heels of hands means I'm struggling to sleep and do normal activities.

Tips for Recovery

Hello, I have CTS in both hands and have surgery for my right hand coming up on July 24, 2018. I’m hoping patients who have had surgery can share with me some tips for recovery. Things I should prepare ahead of time? Things I should buy ahead of time? Things that helped or hindered in your recovery? Thanks in advance!

The Triad

Delighted to find this website as I appear to have 'The Triad' of CTS, trigger finger and Dupuytren's. I've had one CTS operation which hasn't improved things much, and another, on the other hand, is offered. I also have diabetic neuropathy, and the podiatrist thought I had Dupuytren's Contracture as my ring fingers are particularly painful on both hands, and I can't straighten them - my feet also appear to have tendons that are contracting. Any ideas for how to deal with these problems, please?

CP bilateral: advice needed

My EMG diagnosed mild carpal in both hands, no nerve damage three months ago. Right hand is worse than left. Had a steroid injection two weeks ago. Not helped. My hand surgeon, who is a top Dr., Told me that because of no improvement from steroid injection. I would not be a good candidate for surgery. I have had EMG testing on neck and cervical spine, all testing was negative. Do you have any recommendations as to what to do now? Thank you. Linda

Hello, I am a 50yr old female who was told 25yrs ago that I had Arthritis in both hands. I always felt that there was something more going on and tried on so many occasions with different doctors to find out. When someone at work, in 2014, suggested it sounded like C.T I went back to my Doctor and she arranged the N.C.S. I have not seen the results but remember in my dominant right hand it was a 4? described as 'moderate' and the left hand was slightly below that.I do remember thinking there was nothing 'moderate' in terms of the pain I was in!
