numbness and 'zap' feeling
I had cts on 29 November for severe carpal tunnel on non-dominant hand. Scar healed well, have good dexterity, too. Was doing great until one night, when I woke up with my entire hand numb, felt like I slept on it. Got it all woken up but now have numbness I didn't have at first. When I type even a little, fingers and palm go numb. At rest, the middle finger is totally numb, the long edge of the ring finger nearest to the middle finger is sometimes numb, and the thumb is numb only at the nail joint. When I do the pincer movement, I get a zap in my palm like when you hit your funny bone.
Considering Revision Surgery
In Oct. 2018, I had carpal tunnel release on my right hand. After symptoms returned, my neurosurgeon ordered an MRI of my right hand and wrist which showed "a large amount of scar tissue exerting a mass effect on the median nerve". EMG results were normal. It was decided to watch and wait to see if this resolved on its own and, if not, consider revision surgery.
Now, at 13 months post-op, the scar tissue remains and I continue to have right-hand pain similar to that before the first surgery.
Any guidance is much appreciated.
Pre-op Jitters
First off, I want to thank you and this site for helping me think about the possible solutions and their risks. There are a few horror stories out there, but I’m trying to remain optimistic. I’m leaning towards open CTR at the suggestion of my doctor a month ago and would really appreciate a second experienced option.
Diagnostic Questionnaire
I have just completed the diagnostic questionnaire which says it is unlikely to be CTS
This surprises me as both my physiotherapist and doctor seem to think it is.
Carpel Tunnel Revision Surgery
My carpel tunnel has returned after nearing 2 years after surgery - right wrist release and ulnar nerve. I've read up about any number of reasons, etc. I'm wondering if anyone has undergone some type of "Revision Surgery"? What was the problem diagnosed (reason for recurring) and how was the 2nd surgery - wha type and was it successful, how was recovery and how are you doing now after how many months?
New Assessment.
I have CTS in both hands. I was successfully treated on my right hand by Mr. Smith in February this year, and was expecting to go on the waiting list for surgery on my left hand. Unfortunately this has not happened, and I think I will have to have a new referral. The CTS in my left hand is now causing severe impairment, and I think I need a new assessment.
Referred by GP for surgery
I was referred back in March for consideration of surgery for carpal tunnel, previously my right hand was operated on at Beltinge Surgery. I have had injections on the left which have not worked. This was done by Dr Miles in house (great stuff, was happy with this) A couple of months went by contacted GP again to be told it had been submitted, but a long wait, a Month ago (6months since initial referral) to say I had not heard anything, so they resubmitted the referral. I got a letter from Kingsnorth Medical Practice saying you’re contact them. So I did, to see Mr Kelly.
CTS from injury and nervous about steroid injection
Consultant wants to do steroid injection into wrist, but I'm worried about it hitting my nerve. Is it possible for the median nerve to be a little more to the ulna side than usual? Most diagrams show it exactly centre to wrist or slightly radial but I have this nagging concern that it might be more to the ulna side since my reduced sensation in the palm extends to beneath the ring finger.
Many thanks
2 months of very numb feeling and doctor is recommending surgery:
Do I need to get surgery to fix the problem?
Here is what happened. Late July 2019 I was working out with weights and did too many forearm exercises. For days my forearms were swollen and sore and as they healed i developed symptoms of CTS overnight. It was really bad for the first 3 weeks in the 3 fingers and very numb to the point I needed help buttoning buttons.
I got the nerve study at the end of July and was told it was severe. He said it typically is around a 4 and mine was about a 6.5/7.
Do you think symptoms will resolve soon
Hi Dr,
