Post Op - Still have symptoms
I had left carpal tunnel decompression surgery on 29th May 2013. Prior to the surgery I had all the signs of CTS symptoms, the consultant operated on my left hand 2 weeks after his diagnosis as he informed me I needed an urgent operation on both hands due to the severity, he told me I have bi-lateral CTS, & collapsed carpal in my right hand ? & also nerve damage. He did not perform a nerve conduction test. He removed my stitches 2 weeks after my operation on 29th May.
CTS tender to touch?
The triad of CTS symptoms appears to be pain, numbness or tingling: in the early days I had all of this combination. However, there appears to be no definitive description of what type of pain you should experience in CTS. I have now developed tenderness (ie. pain upon palpation) over the bony joint at the base of my left index finger (ie. the junction of the metatarsal and the proximal phalange of my index finger). This tenderness is associated with stiffness, and painful range of motion of the same index finger which is worse in the morning or after rest.
Advice (and reassurance) needed pls
Hi there,
First of all I would like to compliment this helpful website. It's very helpful indeed.
I'll attempt to give you a thorough context! Back in April I tripped over a concrete step and put a lot of my weight on out stretched hands. It didn't particularly hurt, in fact my pride hurt more. I didn't think about it again.
Questionaire Results.
Im new here, I'm 33 and male. I've recently had several doctor appointments because of my hand problems, (numb fingers, pain, stiffness, tingling etc). He didn't think it was CTS but after having the electric tests it was decided I have CTS in both hands. I have now had steroid injections in both hands and I think it's improved but I still struggle with power tools and the touchscreen on my iPad. Anyway, I completed the questionaire and got a very low likelyhood of having CTS? This seems strange? Screenshot of results. http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/6194/q5fy.jpg
Undecided
Due to carer responsibilities I feel I should have the injections soon to help me through until I can organize suitable time for
op a little later this year. Do I need to contact Dr Miles or is that arranged by your department?
post op hand exercises
I noticed that some of the forum topics mention post op hand exercises. I am going to have my right hand operated on the 25th June and would love to have the exercises in advance. Is there anywhere I can download them?
How long would you advise for time off after the operation? I presently work part time doing secretarial work which includes duties of typing, mouse control, writing minutes and carrying patient notes. I also teach painting which involves carrying heavy boxes and demonstrating (I am right handed).
Electro acupuncture to alleviate cts symptoms
I am currently conducting some research and I wondered if anyone has experienced electro or non electro acupuncture for alleviating symptoms of CTS?
I would welcome any feedback positive or negative please
How can I use an ergonomic keyboard tray on my glass desk?
I have a glass desk at home, can't really afford a wood one and if I did I rather not have to spend money on a desk if I already have one. I am looking into one of those ergonomic keyboard trays on ebay to treat my carpel tunnel, they are only about $50, does anyone know how I can mount one of these to my glass desk? If I drill into it will it crack? It is tempered glass, from walmart.
Also does anyone know if those imax smartgloves help with carpel?
