How long after surgery should I keep dressing on for?
Hi everyone.
I had my right hand operated on 11/12/2013 and removed the padded dressing 2 days later as advised by the hospital.
My question is.... How long do I need to keep the dressing over the wound on? I changed it yesterday & today but truth be told it's really starting to irritate me now! Obviously, if I need to keep one on I will do, just feeling hopeful!
Thanks :-)
John Nickson-update and question
Hi Jeremy,
Update
It is now some time since my cortisone injections in both wrists and operation on my left wrist. I quote :
"Cortisone injections February 24th, immediate cessation of pain and thereafter gradual improvement in both hands.
Had op on worst hand(left) Friday 8th June. No noticeable improvement in hand operated on but both hands continued to improve."
Both hands are still fine but when I cycle for some time, including some rough ground (+20 minutes) I have been experiencing CTS in my right hand. It goes after a while when I stop. Left hand is fine.
Question About Injections For A Wheelchair User
Hello, I'm a wheelchair user and I've been told that I have moderate carpal tunnel in my right hand, diagnosed with an EMG. I could also possibly have arthritis. I'm not too keen on surgery, but I've been thinking about trying an injection. My question is--would I be able to take care of myself after the injection? Can you put pressure on the wrist? I would plan on resting in bed as much as possible and I know that my husband would be willing to help me, but I'd prefer to go to the bathroom on my own.
aPallo Wrist Brace System
Has anyone tried the aPallo wrist brace system and if so what are your thoughts? I have been researching a lot of braces and really like this one, but seems like a newer product so trying to find out if anyone has any experience with it. I think it is a good idea to have the 2 braces, one for day and one for night, and like the ice pack idea. Here is a link to the brace:

I appreciate any feedback on the brace
Does this sound like CTS?
Hello all,
Hand elbow and shoulder
Could anyone tell me if it's normal or possible to have the pain from CTS travel to the elbow and shoulder . I have had it for years now . I had a steroid injection first , then acupuncture and a splint .then finally four years ago surgery . I still get lots of numbness , ache to the back of the hand , and pain from the hand through the elbow to my shoulder . What should I do next ? . I wear a splint , but have to have it pulled so tight to stop the pain ! . Thanks .
Small Painless Bumps in Bad Wrist
I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel in my left wrist about two months ago after four years of pain. The doctors did an EMG test, but it didn't return any results. So they decided to do a cortisone injection. The pain was gone for about the first month, but I'm starting to feel pain again. I play viola for a few orchestras, so it makes practicing painful. The veins going into my hand have been bright purple for a few weeks now, where in my other wrist you can barely make them out.
Constant numbness after CTS
I had CTS in September on my right hand which was classed as "moderate" two years ago. My symptoms disappeared within 24 hours of surgery. I had the surgery three weeks ago on my left hand which as classed as "mild". Since surgery my left thumb, index, and middle finger are constantly moderately numb and stiff. If I use the hand very much I get tingling. Before surgery I only had numbness when grasping objects like a phone or a steering wheel. My surgeon has said each time I ask that this is normal.
Relieved and Happy
Hi Dr Bland,
A very big thank you, first the hand brace I was given to wear at night helped and then the injection on Tuesday of this week is incredible, the pain has eased by at least 20% which for me is a result, just wish they could do the same for my neck and arm but some relief is far better than no relief.
A very big thank you to you and your team.

Post carpal tunnel release surgery (9 years ago_
I had surgery on my left hand 9 years ago and this has left me with a weakness which impacts on my daily life and my job in respect of grasping, holding and manipulating every day objects. I still occasionally get the old familiar tingling and pain in my right had (did not operate on my right hand). Does anyone else have the same problem?
