Patient feedback on carpal tunnel medical information

Hi

I hope you do not mind me posting here, I was wondering if I could ask your help as patients with experience of carpal tunnel syndrome. We write the medical topics that are published on the NICE CKS website here: http://cks.nice.org.uk/#?char=A.

The topics are written for doctors and other healthcare professionals working in primary care, and are used both as a learning resource and as a point-of care resource during patient consultations.

Pain Relief at Night

Hello! I've recently been diagnosed with CTS and I am having very bad pain at night such as waking up every hour with intense numbness and shooting, throbbing pain up my arm. The pain subsides some when i stand up and pace the room for several minutes but then I wake up again an hour later. I tried sleeping sitting up but the pain does not go away. This has been going on for the last 3 nights. I've been taking high doses of ibuprofen but to no avail. I've been wearing a splint brace at night and throughout the day for several days.

Post Surgery Usage

Hi

I am currently unable to do the gardening and any repetitive chores/activities as this brings on a CTS 'attack' which then takes weeks to calm down. I have moderate CTS in my left hand and of late due to undertaking too much lifting find my hand is mildly numb and goes number when driving. I am not sure whether to have the surgery and if I did would I be able to do repetitive chores/activities or will that bring the CTS back?

Continued CT

I've had 2 releases to the left and right hands between 2008 & 2010. Additionally, I had a decompression to the inner forearms for continued numbness, tingling, and stiffness to all fingers. Had an EMG yesterday that reflects very little slowing in the median nerves but no ct. My fingers just continue to show these symptoms after all these surgeries and the stiffness and pain has definitely increased. I've had plenty of therapy, several injections prior to the surgeries, take plenty of medications, use braces at night and a soft one for my dominant hand in the daytime.

Nerve Conduction Studies - do you offer private test?

Hello,

I was supposed to have Carpal Tunnel surgery at my practice today but was told I need to do a nerve conduction studies and appointments for one do take a while. I am deeply upset. Carpal Tunnel has affected day to day activities and is not getting getting better. Dr Bland is this something you offer privately as I would like to arrange one to be done asap. Thank you.
