What are the best ways to examine the hand status?
Hello!
This is my first post on this forum. I simply wonder what the best ways to examine a hand, wrist and arm are? I want to have a clear picture of not only the nerve, but the tendons, bones, blood vessels, muscles etc as well.
Is it MRi?
Is it ultrasound?
Is it X-ray?
Is it ENMG?
I want to know the positions of all things inside of the hand and wrist, how swollen the tendons are, if there are any bones that look to have been broken, how the blood flow looks like etc.
Carpel Tunnel release, i had it done and now its worse
I had the release in my left hand on the 6th Dec 2014. After the operation i noticed my little finger and fourth finger were numb, which in time came back, to to be honest they dont feel right. After they took the stitches out, one of the stitches got stuck and it took the nurses a while to get it out. I then got an infection in my wound, and was given antibiotics for 2 weeks.
Sore Arm
Hi,
My arm is sore around the base of my scar to aprox 2/3rds down. I would say it's only a 1/10 (1 being lowest) but it is only where the lightening is happening.
Am I just impatient?
I had release surgery performed on my left hand 4 weeks ago. And since then no numbness, tingling or otherwise. So from that point of view I'm delighted. However, my hand still feels stiff around the wound area and it's painful along the wound area when I move thumb across towards my little finger. This makes gripping of anything a little uncomfortable and I'm not inclined to try gripping with any force.

Morning Dr Bland, I had my wrist injected a while ago, which was very successful. I now feel I need it repeating please. Previously it was done at Wye clinic.
Update
Hi,
Have recievied the Nerve Conduction Studies report, and have had a review appointment to come back and see consultant.
With what you had advised on the report I hope that they will do the injections. As its in both hands will they inject both or one at a time if they go ahead with injecting

KLaser for CTS
I have been reading about something called K Laser for CTS which is non invasive. Would you know whether its a viable alternative to surgery. I've been diagnosed with severe CTS and told I would need surgery. Reading your forum and other sites it would appear that surgery also can lead to further problems hence my query about K Laser.
Secondly, given the variation in surgical outcomes how can one find an experienced surgeon? The person doing the nerve condcution studies said when CTS is severe its important to ensure its not someone inexperienced dealing with the operation.
Side affects
Does anyone know if carpal tunnel causes swelling of the feet and ankles please?
what to do post surgery?
Hi. I had surgery 7 days ago. My stitches and cast are being removed in 3 days. Today I started to use my fingers and thumb but it aches. My question is do I need to book physio? My surgeon gave me no advice on this and what happens after the first ten days. Do I need to keep a dressing on it after the stitches are out?

Debbie
Post release thumb stiffness
I underwent bilateral carpal tunnel release in October (right wrist) and November (left wrist). Right thumb locks up now and is swollen at the base and around the first segment joint. Gripping is poor...even painful to hold my toothbrush, button blouses and holding small items like my earrings is almost impossible. Could this be from the release and will it get better in time? Thank you.
