steriod injections

I have suffered from CTS for over 20 years although not badly at first.I attended the clinic at Kent and Canterbury in September and was given wrist splints, I have used these each night and have found them 75% usefull.
On the 3rd of November I had steriod injection in both wrists with little pain, just a dull ache for most of the day. That night I still used my wrist splints and had no pain in my hands at all ( my first full night sleep).

Need advice on whether to get surgery with my unusual circumstances...

Hi there-

My hand issues started 10 years ago, when I awoke with stiff, painful hands and pure exhaustion. I discovered that night splints really help to improve my sleep and make the hand pain minimal, although they are weak throughout the day. Neurontin has further help improve my sleep but for all this time, I never have had a diagnosis until 3 weeks ago. I've had 5 negative EMGs over the last several years but a new doc decided to do a ultrasound and both the radiologist and neurosurgeon both diagnosed it as bilateral carpal tunnel after seeing the images. Whew!

Index Finger Pulley

Hi i was recently referred by my Doctor for carpal tunnel syndrome, had pain for a few years now and ignored as it came and went, but has now started to get worse that i dropped an instrument on a patient, i was a dental nurse, i get all the pins and needles, weakness in the whole of my right hand, arm, and right up to my shoulder, lower hand section of thumb pain, but what i find most surprising is that i can pull my index finger down by pressing on my arm near the wrist, there is a hard boney tendon line to the right of my wrist could be the median nerve, when this is pressed my index finger

Possible CTS

I was hoping for some advice on the key factors in determine actual CTS. I was diagnosed with CTS around 10 years ago. I had a cortisone injection in my right wrist. It never really went away completely but the symptoms did calm down for a short while, so I just got on with it.

Helping with numbness in fingers

I have just started to experience CTS and in the course of much detailed research I read an article that recommended the use of flicking movements of the wrist and hands to ease numbness and improve circulation. I regularly use this technique and find it very effective.

Carpal tunnel and tennis elbow surgery

Hi, I had carpal tunnel and tennis elbow surgery done on my left arm 3 weeks ago. 13 days after the surgery my index finger was very cold, swollen and stiff and I had no feeling on that finger, part of the middle, inner part on my thumb and part of my palm. I'm in constant pain (squeezing, pricking, pinching, stabbing, burning sensation). I haven't had therapy yet so my fingers, hand n elbow are getting stiff (atrophy is setting in), I do the best I can by moving, stretching and ROM but it hurts so much. (My therapy appt is this Wednesday).

Tendon Anomalies

Hi i wondered if anyone either as a patient or a medic has encountered tendon anomalies such as Linburg-Comstock (my index finger flexor tendon is attached at the thumb) affecting Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

on-line test

Hi - just completed the on-line test & I am worried it may not give correct results. When I got to the 'which fingers are effected' bit I could not find an option that said all fingers (including thumb) except the little finger so trying to be accurate I entered 'none'. This can't be right can it? I may not have read correctly but I get the pain in all except the little finger. I get the pins and needles in all except the little & ring finger and I have a stiffness and can't straighten the ring & index finger with out pain.

trigger finger

have had previous cts surgery on right hand - about two years ago, and still suffering from symptoms, the hospital think are caused by severe scar tissue. have had ultrasound treatment which helped. but also in a lot of pain in my thumb since op - had ultrasound treatment and now have external neural modulation when pain is severe. following this I have developed trigger finger in both hands - both mainly ring finger. Monday morning I had surgery to release on left hand, but my ring finger and little finger have not regained sensation!

work and scar pain

Hi I advise on return to manual work after surgery and am looking for guidance in relation to scar sensitivity and timeframes for recovery in relation to this.Is there anywhere on the site detailing this or can you direct me to any research? Many thanks in anticipation. Jacqui
